What to Expect

THE INTERVIEW PROCESS

Our interview process is based on the customer answering questions that are asked as the return is being prepared. These questions are designed to get all the information needed for an accurate and completed tax return. All questions/answers are displayed on the monitor screen so that the customer can see what is being asked and answered. At the end of the interview recaps will be displayed showing refunds or taxes owed. Form 1040 and any other forms or schedules required will then be printed.

The customer has the option to do their state return along with the federal return. Our software can prepare any of the 50 states returns, so those of you who are required to file in multiple states, come on in!

When you come to the interview please bring the following:

*All documents relating to income and expenses during the year. These include wage and income statements (W-2’s, 1099’s, Social Security Statements, etc)

*Child care expenses and provider information, including EIN/Social Security Number and address of the Provider.

*Last year’s tax return (if not prepared by us).

*Identification (Social Security card and valid driver’s license).

*All dependent Social Security numbers and years of birth.

Attached to this section is the “Basic Taxpayer Information” form. Completing this form will guide you with respect to what to bring to the interview.

If you are going to use our “drop-off” service or you are going to itemize all your deductions, then use the form presented on the back of the Tax Kit folder and the Basic Taxpayer Information form mentioned above. Based on the information you provide, our software will calculate if it is more advantageous to itemize or not to itemize.

Upon completion of the federal/state returns you will know if you are going to receive a refund or owe money. If you are going to receive a refund you will need to decide how fast you want your money. We offer the following products through Santa Barbara Bank and Trust:

RAL—Refund Anticipation Loan—this bank product, if approved, is dispersed either by check or on a Cash Card in as little as one day. Since this is a loan the bank does charge interest.

AR—Assisted Refund—This bank product is also dispersed by check or on a Cash Card and from 7 to 11 days to be funded. This is not a loan product.

ADD—Assisted Direct Deposit—this allows us to route your refund into your own personal checking/savings account.

The monitor will display the costs associated with each product. These products do not require any fees to be paid upfront. All fees are withheld from the anticipated refund. There is no charge for electronically filing your tax return when it is prepared through our software!

If you do not choose a bank product you can pay the tax preparation fee either by cash, check or credit card. There is no additional fee for your refund to be directly deposited into your bank account. This is a very safe and fast way to receive your refund.

If you have to pay “Uncle Sam” and the amount is more than you can afford at the time, there are options available that we can discuss with you at the interview.

Once the interview is complete the return is error checked in the office and then transmitted to our Corporate Office for an error check and then to the IRS. This process normally takes very little time. However, occasionally an error is found, maybe a wrong Social Security Number, or birthdays don’t match the name, etc. In this case the process can take longer. You can follow the status of your return by calling toll-free 1-800-586-3953 (En Espanol-1-800-931-1040). This is an important number. Our automated system receives data directly from the IRS, sometimes before we get it.
